Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

Mar 8, 2026    Thomas Cornette

In Part 5 of the “Encounters With Jesus” series, Pastor Thomas Cornette teaches from Mark 8:27–38, where Jesus asks one of the most important questions in Scripture: “Who do you say that I am?”

Peter gives the right answer, but quickly shows he doesn’t fully understand what it means. This passage reveals how easy it is for us to reshape Jesus into someone who fits our preferences instead of submitting to the real Christ.

Jesus makes it clear that following Him is not about editing His message, it’s about denying ourselves, taking up our cross, and losing our life in order to truly find it.

Sermon Points:

• Right Answers Are Not The Same As Real Understanding

• We Are Naturally Trying To Reshape Jesus Into Our Own Image

• Following The Real Jesus Means Losing Your Life To Find It

The question Jesus asked His disciples is the same question He asks each of us today: Who do you say that I am? And the answer is revealed not only in what we say, but in how we live.
